About Keir

Keir started his career wanting to be a scientist. He took A-levels in biology, chemistry, physics and maths and went on to study physics at Leeds University. There, Keir made an important discovery. He isn’t nearly as into maths as most physicists are. Perhaps a novel-a-week habit should have convinced him he was better suited to being a man of letters.

After university, Keir decided to put all he had learned studying physics to good use by taking a job in biochemistry; he became a professional brewer. This went far better than his misadventures in physics. Beers were brewed, awards were won. He sat on the board of several companies. Then, in 2019, the world went topsy-turvy.

Suddenly, everyone had a lot more time on their hands. Keir put his time to good use by indulging in one of his hobbies – he started taking writing more seriously. He enjoyed it. Loved it, even. Soon, a niggling thought entered his head. Would this be a better use of his talents? Did he have a story to tell that the world wanted to hear? By the end of lockdown, Keir had enrolled in a creative writing degree.

For most of 2020, Keir led a double life. By day, he was a mild-mannered brewer, but by night, he would write crime in his alter ego as an aspiring author. Or, more accurately, fabulist stories and literary fiction. He also secured his first job as a writer, working freelance for a small, independent marketing company. Little did he know that the experience he gained there would be invaluable and opportune. Soon, catastrophe would strike.

For many years Keir had eaten wheat without the slightest problem. A handy attribute for a brewer. Alas, his body decided that those days were now over. You might assume that a brewer becoming allergic to wheat was a great tragedy, akin to Beethoven going deaf. In reality, however, this was exactly the push Keir needed to make him take up the life of a scribe full-time.

Now, having gained a first-class degree in creative writing Keir is continuing his journey as a writer at the University of Nottingham, where he is studying for his Master's degree in creative writing. If you are intrigued and want to find out more about his writing, a selection of his blog posts and articles are available on this page along with a selection of short stories and works of auto-fiction. Enjoy! And, if you happen to find these scribblings interesting and you would like to hire Keir, please feel free to contact him via the contacts page.
